PM Modi Criticizes Congress Following Kharge’s Comments on Promises

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp critique of the Congress party on Friday after its president, Mallikarjun Kharge, advised state units to make only financially feasible commitments.

“The Congress Party is learning the hard truth that while making unrealistic promises is simple, fulfilling them is challenging or often impossible. They repeatedly assure the public of things they know they cannot deliver, and now they are clearly exposed before the electorate!” the Prime Minister remarked on X.

This response followed Kharge’s public admonishment of the Karnataka government, prompted by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s suggestion to reassess a key government guarantee.

“You made five guarantees in Karnataka. Encouraged by you, we also committed to five guarantees in Maharashtra. Today, you indicated that you would cancel one of those promises. It seems you don’t keep up with the news, but I do, so I’m here to remind you,” Kharge stated during a press conference alongside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

In his comments, PM Modi also highlighted issues in states governed by Congress, pointing to a deterioration in both developmental outcomes and fiscal responsibility.

“Look at any state where Congress is in power—Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. The developmental progress and fiscal stability are worsening,” the Prime Minister noted.

“Their so-called guarantees remain unfulfilled, which amounts to a significant betrayal of the public trust. The real victims of this political behavior are the poor, youth, farmers, and women, who not only miss out on these promised benefits but also see their existing programs weakened,” he added.

Modi urged citizens to be cautious of what he termed the Congress-driven culture of “false promises.”

“The citizens must stay alert against the Congress culture of deceitful promises! We recently witnessed how the people of Haryana dismissed their lies in favor of a government that is stable, focused on progress, and action-oriented,” the Prime Minister concluded.
